Pregnant dog left in a rusty crate, saved from shelter euthanasia through timely rescue.

Just one week ago, a pregnant dog had been abandoned behind a Durant, Oklahoma clinic.

She had been locked in an rusty old crate and because no one had any idea where she came from, called the local animal shelter. It is no surprise the shelter is over capacity, and the pregnant dog was given a euthanasia date of last Friday.

With only one hour to live, Good Samaritans intervened along with a volunteer from Dallas rescued her at the last minute, but the dog had been vomiting and refused to lie down.

The volunteers rushed the dog to the veterinary emergency clinic, and asked Dallas Dog RRR for help with the mounting bills.

URGENT!!!

ANNA NEEDS A MIRACLE! SHE WAS SAVED FROM THE SHELTER EUTHANASIA LIST WITH JUST ONE HOUR TO SPARE. ANNA AND HER (AT LEAST) 15 BABIES ARE AT HIGH RISK. SHE BEGAN VOMITING, AND BEING JUST 20LBS WITH ALL THOSE BABIES SHE IS IN A CRITICAL SITUATION. WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN SHE’S DUE BUT SHE HAS NOT STARTED TO LACTATE.

When Monday arrived, so did a lot of puppies. The staff at Alma Animal Hospital, along with three volunteers from Dog RRR sprang into action. Anna went under anesthesia, and a C-section was performed. She had 15 puppies in her uterus and all were a good size, some smaller, but it was agreed, they were all full term.

Anna was very weak, and everyone had been worried for her safety. All of the assistants were handed the puppies, and their job was to massage them, suction them, keep them warm and get them breathing. Everyone worked as a team, helping each other, and everyone fought with everything they had to save them.

It was a hard, sad day with ups and downs.

Unfortunately, seven of the 15 babies did not survive.

Mama Anna and her puppies have been doing well. She is slowly waking up and being introduced to her puppies. Here is a photo of Anna meeting one of her babies for the first time!
